OMG! What an awesome husband Marcia Cross has! Her husband, Tom Mahoney, took her shoe shopping at Barneys! He rocks! Marcia is expecting twins.

Almost exactly a year ago, I had twins and this reminds me of just before they were born. I was so big, so swollen, and so uncomfortable, and my husband and I were walking the mall trying to encourage the babies to come. We got to Macy’s shoe department and I couldn’t go any further so I plunked down on a stool. I could see the sympathy in so many women’s eyes as they walked by and there was my wonderful husband, patiently hanging out in the shoe department with me. When it was time to go, he hauled me off that stool with all his might and took me home. I have to say, Marcia looks a lot perkier than I did!!! Good luck, and shop as long as you can!!

Julie — it was almost 3 years ago for me!!! and i have the same memories (I was HUGE — my twins were 8 lbs 10 oz and 7 bls 3 oz and just walking was a chore). I agree, Marcia looks GREAT and perky and I hope she and her husband are out and about as much as possible (b/c once the twins come — the REAL fun begins!!!)

anonymom~ Wow you had big babies for having twins. Lucky….well maybe it didn’t feel like it at the time, but lucky they were so healthy. Congrats!

Not much chance of them looking like her. More than likely donor sperm was used. Very unlikely to have twins on your own at 44 years of age.

The chance of pregnancy at 44 is extremely rare. Even if you go to a fertility doctor and go with invitro its less than a 2% chance of pregnancy. If you use donor eggs then your chances increase somewhat and of course they put multiple eggs to increase chances of pregnancy and of course multiple births. This is why actors is their mid forties are getting pregnant with twins ALMOST always.

My mum was pregnant with twins last year at 38 (naturally) and the first thing she was told at the hospital was due to her age complications and multiple births were more likely! x

In the world of infertility 38 is much different than 44!!

Those facts are very depressing especially if your TTC!

I certainly won’t dispute your facts after checking my own answer found that the increase in multiples applies up to age 42 so I was incorrect that it could apply to Marsha.
In my personal experiences. those stats do not support the numbers we see, especially being our average maternal age now is 36.8 years. We have on average in the last year had 2 moms/month over 40, (all our patients are natural conception, rarely do we see babes concieved otherwise which make sense I guess), of the last 7 twins we delivered 3 of these were to couples over 40.
I am glad we are still seeing these numbers but of course I do not see infertility cases, so really I had no clue the stats are now that devastating! Currently we have 4 couples due next year in their mid forties, one set of twins as of yet.

I disagree Susan. My friend is 45 and just had her little boy and she didn’t use any kind of fertility drugs. Just her husband. She did have a still birth last year. But everything was done naturally. Also my sons girlfriends mother is 51 and she has a 5 year old. All done naturally!! They didn’t have multiple births but my mother had me and my brothers, (triplets) at the age of 41. Out of 9 kids she had a set of twins also. All naturally.

Please don’t missunderstand – its great to have a child. However the general public is very mislead when they see a public figure get pregant. Most always it is using a donor egg with invitro. Of course they don’t announce that – why would they. Its just important that the public know the stats so they can make a wise decision. Sure miracles happen – but please please don’t hold your breath or take one person that you know and think thats the norm

Marcia’s twins were born, 2 fraternal twins girls eden and savannah
