to Kate: It is easy. Liev has Jewish /Russian /Ukranian heritage. Sasha is a nick name for Alexander in Russian. It is like Bob and Robert in English.

Sasha is short for Alexander.
Joan Collins has a son (who is 42!!!!!) He was christened Alexander which was shortened to Sasha.
