Heath Ledger’s Sister Accepts Oscar On Behalf Of Matilda
February 23rd, 2009
(In the above pic, from left, are Heath’s mother Sally Bell, father Kim Ledger, and sister Kate Ledger arriving at the 81st Academy Awards)
His mother Sally Bell went on to say that Heath, who died a year ago at age 28 of a prescription drug overdose, was “such a compassionate and generous soul” who added so much to people’s lives.
She added, “Tonight, we are choosing to celebrate and be happy with what he has achieved.”
His sister Kate told the audience that Heath had talked about attending the Oscars for the Joker before his untimely death.
She said, “We proudly accept this award on behalf of your beautiful daughter Matilda.”

I was so glad to see him win..and it was really cool the way that they said it was for Matilda.
It was just a classy acceptance speech–just sad it had to come after Heath was gone.
I don’t care what anyone says–he did a fabulous job in Dark Knight, be it when he was alive or after he’d passed.
I really hope his daughter will be able to appreciate it as she gets older.
