The Latest News for Jamie Lynn Spears

Jamie Lynn & Family Home From The Hospital

Jamie Lynn Spears

Jamie Lynn, Casey and little Maddie were catching up on rest Saturday following the birth Thursday at a hospital in McComb, Miss., near the Spears family home across the state line in Kentwood, La., a source told People magazine.

Jamie Lynn was discharged from the hospital overnight Friday. Their car had a police escort home.

“They’re doing terrific,” the source said. “The baby’s got 10 fingers and 10 toes … and a full head of hair. She’s long, a tall baby, and she weighs 7 lbs, 11 oz.”

When the baby was born at about 9:30 a.m., Jamie Lynn’s sister, Britney Spears, and the rest of the Spears and Aldridge families were just outside the birthing room in the spacious maternity suite.

The relatives then joined the new family in the birthing room and took turns holding Maddie Briann and commenting on her features. When new grandmother Joyce Aldridge held the baby, she remarked that Maddie “has Casey’s toes,” the source shared.

Jamie Lynn, 17, and Casey, 19, intend to get married soon, but no date has been announced. Jamie Lynn recently purchased a home in nearby Liberty, Miss., where she and Casey have been living for about three weeks.

Analysis Of The Name That Jamie Lynn Spears Chose For Her Daughter

Jamie Lynn Spears

Jamie Lynn Spears and Casey Aldridge’s decision to name their newborn daughter Maddie Briann is “a surprising choice,” baby name expert Pam Satran, coauthor of baby-naming guides Cool Names and The Baby Name Bible, told Us magazine.

“[Maddie is] cute but nearly old-fashioned at this point,” Pam Satran said. “The nickname Maddie has been popular in its own right since the 1980s, when it was the name used by the character played by Cybill Shepherd in Moonlighting.”

The name is short for Madeline (the French variation of Magdalen, which is Greek for “high tower) or Madison (of English origin, meaning “son of the mighty warrior”), which was a top name several years ago, Pam Satran explained.

“Both Jamie and Maddie are ’80s-style nickname names,” Pam Satran added. “Rather than mother and daughter, they sound like classmates – co-captains of the cheerleading squad!”

As for Maddie’s middle name, Briann, Pam Satran revealed its “a modern feminization of Brian, Irish for ’strong.’

Briann, Brian, Brianne and Brianna have been trending downward over the past several years, Pam Satran pointed out.

Jamie Lynn gave birth to Maddie Thursday at Mississippi Southwest Regional Medical Center in McComb, Mississippi. Maddie weighed 7 lbs., 11 ounces.

Jamie Lynn Spears & Casey Aldridge Welcome A Daughter!

Jamie Lynn Spears

Jamie Lynn Spears and her fiancé Casey Aldridge welcomed a baby girl Thursday morning.

The baby was named Maddie Briann. Maddie weighed 7 lbs., 11 ounces.

“Just the family was there,” said a source about the birth around 9:30 a.m. at Mississippi Southwest Regional Medical Center in McComb, Mississippi, near her Louisiana hometown. “Everyone is healthy and happy.”

Jamie Lynn’s sister Britney, father Jamie and brother Bryan flew in Wednesday to be with her for the birth; her mother Lynne had been with her helping her get ready for the baby.

Since announcing her pregnancy in December, Jamie Lynn has kept a low-profile in her hometown of Kentwood, La.

With her Nickelodeon show Zoey 101 already ended, Jamie Lynn went home to prepare for the birth of her baby. The actress, 17, and Casey, 19, got engaged in March. Recently, the couple purchased a three-bedroom home in Liberty, Miss., where Casey went to high school.

Over the last few months, Jamie Lynn has kept busy by passing her GED exam, preparing the nursery and attending multiple baby showers.

Jamie Lynn’s Zoey 101 costar, Erin Sanders, told People magazine earlier this year that the actress will be a fun mother.

“She is just a very good-hearted and warm person,” he said. “We would always hang out on the set and she is a lot of fun, so I think she’s going to be an easygoing, fun mom.”

Congratulations!

Britney reunited with her expectant sis for her May 2nd baby shower.

“It was wonderful to be able to spend time with her and just be girls again,” Jamie Lynn, 17, told OK! magazine in an interview about seeing her sister for the first time in months. “We painted our nails and did stupid stuff.”

Even better, explained Jamie Lynn, was that she was able to have some one-on-one time with Britney: “To be able to be in the privacy of our own home and just be sisters again was wonderful.”

Mother-of-two Britney even shared some words of wisdom with her pregnant sibling. “She told me, ‘There are going to be some long nights, but it is completely worth it,’” Jamie Lynn recalled to OK! magazine.

As for whether or not the pop superstar will make it back home to Louisiana when Jamie Lynn has the baby, Jamie Lynn told OK! magazine, “Nothing is set in stone, but that would be wonderful. I’d love to have her here for that, but you can’t plan that far ahead.”

Even if Britney isn’t there in person for her younger sister, the two are in almost-constant contact, said Jamie Lynn.

Everyone Has An Opinion About Jamie Lynn Spears!

Jamie Lynn Spears

Everyone seems to be weighing in on Jamie Lynn’s pregnancy! Even Republican presidential hopeful Mike Huckabee – a Baptist minister and the former governor of Arkansas – has shared his opinion.

“It’s a tragedy when a 16-year-old who is not really prepared for all the responsibilities of adult life is going to be now faced with all the responsibilities of honest-to-goodness adult life,” he told CBS News in Iowa.

“Apparently, she’s going to have the child and I think that is the right decision, a good decision, and I respect that and appreciate it,” Huckabee continued. “I hope it is not an encouragement to other 16-year-olds who think that is the best course of action.”

“But at the same time I’m not going to condemn her,” he said. “I just hope that she will make another right decision and that’s to give that child all the love and kindness and care that she can.”

AND MORE OPINIONS!

Execs at  Nickelodeon aren’t the only ones grappling with how to deal with Jamie Lynn Spears’ shocking teen pregnancy: So are teen magazine editors.

“I was considering her for an upcoming cover,” CosmoGIRL! Editor-in-Chief Susan Schulz told Usmagazine.com Friday. “But with this news, I’d have to rethink that.”

Though she praised Jamie Lynn, 16, for “taking responsibility,” Schulz added, “I don’t feel like I can put her on the cover right now because, as you can imagine, girls are disappointed in Jamie Lynn.”

Ann Shoket, Editor-in-Chief of Seventeen, tells Us “we would certainly consider” putting Jamie Lynn on the cover, but only after the Zoey 101 star “overcomes this moment” and goes on “to have a career our readers can look up to.

“Getting pregnant at 16 is not something we’re encouraging,” Shoket says.

Schulz says she doesn’t expect teen girls to follow in her footsteps.

“Girls aren’t going to go out and get pregnant because Jamie Lynn did, quite the opposite,” the CosmoGIRL! editor says. She said they’re probably thinking, “‘I’m so glad that’s not me.’”

Schulz said Jamie Lynn “appears to be very resolved in her decision, and regardless of whether girls agree with her actions or not, they see that she is doing what she personally feels is best despite the uproar over her news.”

AND EVEN MORE OPINIONS!

The outspoken Rosie O’Donnell shared that her 10-year-old daughter Chelsea asked about Jamie Lynn’s baby news.

Rosie, 45, recounted the conversation in response to a question from a fan who wrote to her blog asking her “as a celeb & a mom,” what Nickelodeon should do about Zoey 101.

Rosie says she talked to Chelsea about Britney Spears’s younger sister and, as described in Rosie’s blog-speak, “Here’s how it went,” she says.

“Mama u know the lady with the umbrella and no hair,” Chelsea said. “Her sister is a teenager and she is having twin babies.” (Actually, she only announced she was pregnant).

“And what do u think about that Chels?” asked Rosie.

“Teenagers can have babies?” her daughter asked.

“Yes they can, and it is never a good idea,” she responded.

“Y didn’t she take pills that make u not have a baby?”

O’Donnell’s response: “Hmmmmmm.”

I would much rather see a 16-year-old girl pregnant than a 50-year-old! Jamie Lynn should be commended for keeping her baby…that bis a very brave and heroic choice that she has made.

Liz Lange’s Style Advice For Jamie Lynn Spears

Jamie Lynn Spears

Acclaimed maternity designer Liz Lange has offered style advice to 12 weeks pregnant Jamie Lynn.

“She’s a young girl, so I would want to keep her look innocent,” Liz Lange told People magazine at the Great Debaters premiere in New York Wednesday night. “I think little cute dresses and jeans with tight-fitting tee shirts. … She’s 16, and I’d like to see her look her age.”

As for how her style should differ from Britney’s, who frequented Liz Lange’s L.A. boutique during her two pregnancies, Liz Lange says, “Britney was into cowboy boots with little dresses. That was her style. I’d like to see Jamie Lynn go a little plainer. No belly baring for her!”

Liz Lange continued: “I hope she’s ready for this – It’s definitely a big step. I know that as a mother myself. But if this is what she wants and what their family wants, then mazel tov.”
