Angelina’s Obstetrician Shares That The Twins Are ‘So Cute’

Brad Pitt

Angelina Jolie brought her twins into the world on Shabbat.

That fact may have been overlooked last Saturday by the thousands of media outlets covering the birth, which took place at Lenval Hospital’s Santa Maria Clinic.

But the timing did not escape Dr. Michel Sussmann, Angelina’s Jewish obstetrician.

“The delivery was very emotional and exceptional as Ms. Jolie is a superstar, but I think that it happened on Shabbat made it that much more moving,” Dr. Michel Sussmann said during an exclusive interview with JTA.

Angelina Jolie’s twins Knox Leon and Vivienne Marcheline are “so cute,” Dr. Michel Sussmann, told The Jewish Journal Tuesday.

“It was not an easy operation – a second cesarean with twins is difficult – but it went perfectly,” he said of the cesarean he performed to deliver the two five-pound babies Saturday at the Fondation Lenval hospital in Nice, France.

Brad Pitt cut the umbilical cord.

“The delivery was very emotional and exceptional as Ms. Jolie is a superstar, but I think that it happened on Shabbat [Saturday] made it that much more moving,” Dr. Michel Sussmann said.

“Jolie and Pitt were always laughing and having a good time together, even during the birth operation,” the doctor added.

Dr. Michel Sussmann told the Journal that while is he is the 33-year-old actress’ doctor, that doesn’t mean he wants to be her friend.

“We had an excellent rapport,” he said. “She is so, so nice and never complained about anything. There are negative things sometimes written about her on the Internet, but don’t believe them.”

Brad Pitt Declares “I’m The Happiest Father Ever”

Brad Pitt

After the birth of his twins, Brad Pitt met with the mayor of Nice and kept repeating to him, “I’m the happiest father ever.”

Mayor Christian Estrosi, who visited Brad and Angelina in their hospital room, told the local newspaper Nice-Matin, “[Brad] told me we chose one of the best hospitals in the world, one of the best doctors, one of the best medical teams. And also the most beautiful bay in the world.”

The twins, Knox Leon and Vivienne Marcheline, were born Saturday at the Fondation Lenval hospital in Nice, France. According to Nice-Matin, the babies spent Saturday night in Angelina’s room and she took care of them by herself.

Angelina’s obstetrician, Dr. Michel Sussmann, updated People about Angelina’s recovery and her newborns: “They are all very well, very well. Everything is okay.”

Awwww!

Angelina’s Doctor Shares That Brad Was ‘Very Emotional’ At Birth

Angelina Jolie

Dr. Michel Sussman has shared more details of the birth of Angelina and Brad’s twins.

During the labor and delivery, the couple “were talking, they were together,” Dr. Michel Sussmann told reporters outside Fondation Lenval Hospital in Nice, France, where twins Vivienne Marcheline and Knox Leon were born on Saturday. “It was an epidural, so [Angelina] was awake and speaking and laughing. They were happy.”

Brad never left Angelina’s side – “he was my assistant!” Dr. Michel Sussmann said jokingly – and even cut the babies’ umbilical cords.

“He was … perfectly calm, totally determined, very pleased to be at the birth of his children, very moved and very emotional,” said Dr. Michel Sussmann.

Asked whether the birth had been a textbook delivery, Dr. Michel Sussmann replied, “absolutely no problems.”

Asked when Angelina and the babies leave the hospital? “I don’t know,” he said. “She will stay for a few days. You know, in Europe it isn’t like in the United States, where the patients go home after three days. They will stay a bit longer until everything is okay.”

He added: “The babies are fine. The babies are with the mother and father and they are fine.”

It is wonderful that he drew attention to the care that women in Europe receive in regards to their hospital stay. I know that some may disagree, but I think that all women should have the option of a longer hospital stay after delivering their babies if they choose.

On another note, Angelina’s father has shared that he is “deeply happy” about the birth of her twins.

“I’m over the moon – it’s magnificent,” he told The Insider. “In this world, all we can hope for is that mommy and the kids are healthy. I’m very excited. If I were called today, I’d be there.”

Angelina recently said that she and Jon Voight have reconciled after years of estrangement.

“We’re in contact … and wish each other well,” she told the July issue of Vanity Fair. “I think it’s best that, if we try to have any relationship in the future, we do it quietly.”

Mayor Of Nice Officially Announces The Birth Of Knox & Vivienne

Angelina Jolie

They’re here, officially: On Sunday, Mayor Christian Estrosi of Nice, France, presented one of the birth certificates of Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt’s twins on the steps of Nice’s Fondation Lenval hospital, where son Knox Leon and daughter Vivienne Marcheline were born Saturday.

The typed certificate revealed that Knox was born at 6:27 p.m. on July 12th. Sister Vivienne came within a minute of that time, Dr. Michael Sussmann told People magazine.

The document also showed the Mayor’s signature, as well as Brad’s initials, the letters WBP representing his full name, William Bradley Pitt.

The mayor entered the hospital at 3:24 p.m. to oversee the signing, telling People magazine, “It’s a pride to Nice and all its citizens.”

Knox is the 3,702 registered birth certificate in Nice for 2008.

In welcoming the twins, Mayor Christian Estrosi told reporters, “On behalf of the inhabitants of Nice, I congratulate the happy parents, the most famous couple of the world who have chosen our city for this happy event.”

Earlier in the afternoon, a large bouquet of white roses and lilies for Angelina were delivered.

Mayor Christian Estrosi added: “I also congratulate the four brothers and sister of the newborns who are [history won't forget it] real ‘Niçois’ (‘citizens of Nice’).”

Angelina Jolie & Brad Pitt Welcome Knox Leon & Vivienne Marcheline!

Angelina Jolie

Angelina Jolie has given birth to healthy twins, a girl and a boy, at the Fondation Lenval hospital in Nice, France, the Nice-Matin newspaper reported Sunday quoting her gynecologist.

The twins, Knox Leon and Vivienne Marcheline, were born shortly before 8:00 pm (1800 GMT) on Saturday, the paper said quoting gynecologist Michel Sussmann.

Angelina is fine after having a cesarean section, it added. Knox Leon was reported to weigh 5.03 pounds and Vivienne Marcheline 5 pounds.

“The babies are doing well. The operation went just perfectly,” Dr. Michael Sussmann told People magazine Sunday. “Angelina is in very good spirits. Brad Pitt was at her side. He was there and all was well.”

The twins are the fifth and sixth children for Angelina, 33, and Brad, 44, who are already parents to Maddox, 6; Pax, 4; Zahara, 3; and Shiloh, 2.

“The mother and father are very, very happy,” Michel Sussmann told People magazine.

The doctor told the Associated Press that the cesarean was moved forward “for medical reasons” so that the babies could be born “in the best conditions.” He also said that Angelina is expected to stay in the hospital for a few days.

The babies’ first photograph was sold for 11 million dollars, Nice-Matin said, adding that the money would be given to a humanitarian cause.

Congratulations!

Report: Angelina Welcomes Twin Girls!

Angelina Jolie

UPDATE #2: Okay…this is certainly getting crazy, but now as reported by France’s Le Monde Angelina welcomed twins -a boy and a girl - on Saturday evening and their gynecologist, Michel Sussmann, said that everything went well. And an Australian magazine is reporting that she had a boy and girl. “The twins, Knox Leon and Vivienne Marcheline, were born shortly before 8pm on Saturday (0300 AEST Sunday), the paper said quoting gynecologist Michel Sussmann.” We’ll see!

UPDATE: An InTouch report that Angelina Jolie delivered her twins at the Lenval Hospital in Nice, France is wrong, a hospital rep told Us magazine on Saturday.

“It’s not true. The story is not true,” the rep told Us magazine.

InTouch posted an exclusive story reporting that Angelina had a caesarean Saturday at 6 p.m. French time and delivered two girls, one at 6:45 p.m. and one at 7 p.m.

When Angelina gives birth, the news will be posted on the hospital’s site, a rep told Extra, which first confirmed the rumor was wrong.

Reps for Angelina and Brad never confirmed the rumor.

In Touch Weekly is reporting that Angelina gave birth to the twins today (July 12th)!

And….it’s two girls!!!!

Below is the report by In Touch Weekly:

Sources at the La Fondation Lenval hospital in Nice, France, have revealed exclusively to In Touch that Angelina Jolie has given birth to her twins. According to insiders, the 33-year-old had a caesarean today at 6pm French time and delivered two girls. The first baby was born at 6.45 pm and the other at 7pm. The babies are in good health, another insider says. Sources say Brad was present during the birth. When contacted by In Touch, the hospital’s spokesperson, Nadine Bauer, said that journalists would not be notified ”within minutes” after the birth and that the only way they would be told was by a press release posted on the hospital Web site. Another insider adds that Angelina is expected to leave the hospital with her newborns within 48 hours. Angelina checked into the seafront hospital earlier this month in anticipation of the twins arrival.

Us magazine is saying: Angelina Jolie is rumored to have given birth to twins.

“Yes, but that’s all you need to know,” a hospital source told Usmagazine.com via phone Saturday.

Reps for Angelina and Brad have not confirmed the rumor.

Congratulations!

Angelina To Be Induced On Tuesday!

Angelina Jolie

Angelina will deliver her twins via c-section on Tuesday, July 15th according to French reports! Sources at the Lenval Hospital in Nice, where Angelina will give birth, have revealed that Angelina will be induced on Tuesday. Medics were initially planning the delivery on Monday but that falls on France’s Bastille Day holiday. Sources also reveal that Angelina is keen to give birth. One insider said, “She can’t wait to give birth because she can’t stand the hospital food, and she is fed up to be in this hospital room. If she could be induced earlier she would love it, but the medical team think it’s medically better to wait until next Tuesday.”

Reportedly Angelina is so sick of the hospital food that she has started demanding that salmon be brought in from particular restaurants. She has also (according to reports) abandoned the strict one-shower-a-day policy. Said a source, “She’s not walking around anymore. She doesn’t even take a shower early in the morning. She just stays in bed, talking on her phone, typing on her computer, reading magazines and watching TV.” And a source also shared, “I think she’s in meltdown mode. She’s been getting upset if there’s not enough ice in her glass.”

Hmmm… This is probably complete hogwash…but with so little Angelina news in the past few days the media has apparently been forced to gather these stories from disgruntled hospital staff. Who knows who these mysterious “sources” are anyway! :)

Best wishes to Brad and Angelina!
