A shiny Gwyneth Paltrow appeared on Conan O’Brien’s Tonight Show last night to promote her exclusive gym in New York City, which she has opened with her personal trainer, Tracey Anderson.

She instructed Conan on how to strengthen his glutes as she made him exercise during her interview.

Gwyneth also shared that her three-year-old son, Moses, is already a huge Jay-Z fan. “We actually call him our Sensitive Thug, which is a line from a Jay-Z song, as that characterizes him perfectly. He is so out of his mind, then he has these moments of amazing poetic and softness. The children definitely know their dad is a musician, I am not sure what they think I do, but they are definitely into their dad’s music. My son thinks that any white person is his dad. Any rock music is done by his daddy, and any rap is done by uncle Jay, Jay-Z. He watches Jay-Z videos all the time, so we have to put on the 99 Problems video because he is obsessed. That is so not appropriate.”

Just days after The New York Times published this article Gwyneth is speaking out about the criticism that her lifestyle Web site, Goop.com, is receiving.

“I think the people who are criticizing it or criticizing the idea of it, don’t really get it, because if they did, they would like it,” Gwyneth, 36, told People magazine Wednesday night at a New York City benefit she hosted for Bent On Learning, a non-profit organization which arranges yoga and meditation classes in the city’s public schools.

Gywneth said she believes the criticism simply stem from the fact that she’s doing something new and different. “I think that people like people to stay in their ‘box’ – they like people to stay how they are comfortable seeing them.”

Gwyneth told People magazine of Goop.com, “There’s nothing incendiary about it. I find it really interesting because it’s a harmless [news]letter that goes out each week.”

The New York Times asks “why is she suddenly on TV giving dieting and fitness tips, backing a gym, writing a cookbook and an online newsletter full of shopping advice, kabbalistic musings and discussion of the Master Cleanse?” Gwyneth says she decided to launch Goop, “because I felt like I had a lot of really useful information that I was privileged enough to get, because I have this amazing, super, fortunate life.”

In addition, she said, “My friends call me all the time to say, ‘Where should I go?’ or ‘What should I do?’ And I thought, you know maybe some other people would be interested in it as well, so I started it, and it’s doing great.”

Today’s Goop newsletter began with the following story before continuing on to recommend places to stay and dine while in Paris:

When I was ten years old, my father and I took a trip to Paris, leaving my younger brother and mother in London where she was filming a movie. My dad believed in one-on-one time with us, and sometimes that extended to a weekend away. We stayed at a great hotel and he said I could order whatever I wanted for breakfast (French fries). We went to the Pompidou museum, the Eiffel Tower and the Louvre – the usual spots. It was pretty great. On the plane back to London he asked me if I knew why we had gone, just he and I, to Paris for the weekend. I said no, but I felt so lucky for the trip. He said, “I wanted you to see Paris for the first time with a man who would always love you, no matter what.” From that time on, Paris was and continues to be very special to me. I lived there for five months in 1994 and I have made many trips back. These are the places in Paris I stay and eat and toast my dad.

I just got this e-mail from Gwyneth Paltrow:

Ah, fashion… the fun frivolity that can really cheer a girl up.
I used to spend a lot of time looking at fashion, reading about fashion, generally being bemused by fashion. Then one day I had children and it all kind of went out the window. For a few years I was basically in sweat pants and I didn’t mind it. It’s a fine line, however, between being comfortable and being demoralized by being frumpy all the time. Just because I no longer had an hour to stand in front of my closet and try to figure out what to wear, did not mean I had to don the same high school t-shirt from the day before. As I started to get back into the world of work, I needed to wear something easy and chic that did not require a lot of planning or accessorizing. It is here that I did return to high school, but this time for a clothing concept: the uniform. Below you will find how the concept works. The key to it is realizing what works on you personally. At some point I figured out that following trends is not always the way to go, you have to know what works on your body and have confidence (not always easy) that what is flattering is fashionable.
I want clothes that move easily from a winter’s morning making pancakes to the school run to a meeting to homework to a dinner party. These are the basics I am wearing right now for easy, fuss-free dressing. I’ve paired the basics together for three very different but wearable outfits that can be amended for any occasion.

…just kidding! I had checked out her new lifestykle website a few months ago and signed up to receive e-mails from Goop. This is the first one that I received.

It gave examples of different fashion ensembles that Gywneth likes.

The glamorous mother-of-two has launched her own lifestyle Website, Goop by Gwyneth Paltrow..

Each of the sections, which include “Make,” “Go,” “Get,” “Do,” “Be,” and “See,” feature an essay written by Gwyneth.

“My life is good because I am not passive about it,” Gwyneth writes. “I want to nourish what is real, and I want to do it without wasting time. I love to travel, to cook, to eat, to take care of my body and mind, to work hard. I love being a mother who has to overcome my bad qualities to be a good mother. I love being in spaces that are clean and nice.”

“Make your life good. Invest in what’s real,” Gywneth continues. “Cook a meal for someone you love. Pause before reacting. Clean out your space. Read something beautiful. Treat yourself to something. Go to a city you’ve never been to. Learn something new. Don’t be lazy. Workout and stick with it. GOOP. Make it great.”

The website has not officially launched but you can sign up to receive the GOOP newsletter.

I could be wrong, but it almost looks as if Gwyneth is positioning herself to be the next Martha Stewart…maybe the more hip and fit version of Martha Stewart for women in their 30’s!
