As the holidays approach, Reese faces a dilemma shared by many divorced parents – how to share custody of her young children during the holiday. 

“I think the most important thing is to be a grownup,” she said, “and not let any kind of feelings affect how you deal with your children.” 

For the mother-of-two – who finalized her divorce from Ryan Phillippe in June – that means having “a lot of communication” with her ex-husband and “just being very open.”

“I’m very lucky in that we raise our kids to just be happy,” Reese, 32, said Sunday in Beverly Hills while promoting her film Four Christmases. “I think the most important thing is the children. What do they want, what makes them feel comfortable?” 

In the film, Reese plays the daughter of divorced parents who, at first, lacks any parenting skills. Could Reese relate? 

“When I first held my baby, Ava, [that] was the first time I’d ever held a baby in my life,” she said. “So I understand that sort of fear or not being a good mom. It took me a long time to feel really comfortable in the role of being a mother.” (In addition to Ava, now 9, Reese and Ryan also have a son, Deacon, 5.) 

As for marriage, “I [had] a certain idea what I thought marriage gives,” said Reese – who’s now dating Jake Gyllenhaal, 27. But “sometimes it doesn’t work out that way so you have to be open to whatever comes your way in life. … Love and relationships take all kinds of shapes and it’s not necessarily the ones you recognize.” 

So, would she ever get married again? “I don’t know,” she said, laughing. “I don’t think about it much.”

Ryan Phillippe was snapped taking his son Deacon to a karate lesson for his fifth birthday. Ryan watched from a sofa in the window of the small martial arts school before leaving alone. Deacon left with a nanny who took him back to his mother, Reese Witherspoon.

Avon global ambassador Reese Witherspoon was snapped celebrating the company’s first global fund-raising product, the Women’s Empowerment Bracelet, during an event in Sao Paulo, Brazil on Thursday.

The mother-of-two told reporters in Sao Paulo on Thursday, “There isn’t a woman in the world that doesn’t have a friend or a partner who’s actually experiencing some sort of violence against them, so I think although domestic violence hasn’t happened to me personally, I certainly know women who are dealing with this struggle every day.”

“Domestic violence affects women who are famous, who are not famous, women who have money, women who have no money. This is an issue that crosses all boundaries and it certainly affects everyone.”

Reese Witherspoon, Avon Global Ambassador and Honorary Chair of the Avon Foundation, joined walkers at the Avon Walk for Breast Cancer in Washington, D.C. on Sunday.

Reese, 32, shared the following at the event:

On her kids Ava, 8, and Deacon, 4: “They have always kind of known me to be who I was, and if people know Mom at the grocery store, I think they kind of like it. Obviously, if you’re not having the greatest day, it’s not always easy, but for the most part, fame brings a lot of positive things into our life.”

On her role as an Avon ambassador: “I’ve always been very focused on creating positive images and doing things to give back to women.”

On her daughter Ava: “She has a very giving spirit, so it’s great to encourage that. There’s a great responsibility to educate your children and show them what’s important in life, which includes giving back.”

Reese Witherspoon visited at a New Orleans school for at-risk kids for the upcoming Idol Gives Back special.

Airing April 9th, the show features Reese, 32, at a Children’s Defense Fund Freedom School where troubled children learn to become community leaders.

Back in 2006, Reese (a CDF board member) helped open the city’s first Freedom School.

“Once you have children in your life, you can no longer close your eyes to people… who are in a similar situation,” Reese told ABC News at the time.

Brad Pitt, Miley Cyrus, Robin Williams and Mariah Carey will also take part in the Idol Gives Back show.

Last year’s special raised more than $75 million to help fight poverty.

Ryan Phillippe was snapped at LAX with Ava, 8, and Deacon, 4, on November 12th upon returning from a weekend trip to Philadelphia.

Ryan recently shared that he was suicidal after his 2006 split with wife of seven years Reese Witherspoon.

“After the divorce, I was a physical wreck. I wanted to die,” he told the Autumn-Winter 2007-2008 of U.K. magazine Man About Town. “I was ready to kill myself. I was not taking care of myself at all. I would wake up and cry and vomit.”

Ryan, 33 – who shares custody of their children, Ava, 8, and Deacon, 4 — says the experience has ultimately made him a better actor: He can cry faster on cue.

“Now, it’s f—king easy,” he says. “When I was younger, I didn’t have enough to cry about. But since I’ve had kids, I feel my work has become better, because my life is fuller and more complicated, and I’ve experienced so many highs and lows.”

Ryan will return to big screen in the March drama Stop Loss — which again teams him with former flame Abbie Cornish, who he was seeing right before he split with Witherspoon — but don’t expect him to star in any commercials anytime soon.

He found fault with Catherine Zeta-Jones’ decision to star in T-Mobile ads, saying, “When I see her in a movie it’s hard to disassociate the two.”
